Common Questions

I have questions about shipping custom cabinets!

We completely understand if you have questions about shipping custom cabinets. It can be intimidating to imagine ordering any amount of cabinetry to be shipped from across the country. Here are some of the most common questions we get:

How will the cabinets arrive?

The cabinets are fully assembled and finished at our shop in Seattle, Washington. They are not flat packed. We carefully pack the cabinets into large wooden crates and ship through our freight partner, Maersk. Maersk will call you (or another designated contact person) to arrange a delivery date/time window that works best for your schedule. They can deliver the crates at your home or business.

Should I get Standard and Premier Shipping?

Maersk offers two levels of delivery to best suit your needs: Standard or Premier.

Standard shipping includes a delivery crew that moves the crates from the truck and rolls them into your garage/carport or just onto your driveway if weather permits. From there it will be your responsibility to unpack the cabinets and move them inside. Usually people choose standard shipping if they have a contractor and crew that can move the cabinets into their home.

Premier shipping includes a delivery crew that will open up the crates and move the individual cabinets into one room of choice. The delivery crew will take away all of the crate material that is left over. Premier shipping service does increase the price of the delivery, but can be useful in certain circumstances.

How much does shipping cost?

When you request a quote from Kerf, you will be asked to provide your zip code. We use the zip code to estimate the cost of standard shipping to your area. Estimating the cost of shipping can be complex due to the nature of delivering to different parts of the country as well as different settings (urban, suburban, rural). Our initial bid includes an estimate for packing and shipping the cabinets assuming a standard shipping service.

Once we have more information about the exact delivery address as well as the level of delivery required, we can make a better estimate as to how much shipping will cost. It is important to note that shipping can be more expensive in rural areas away from city centers, it can also be more expensive if you live in an extremely dense urban area.

Where do you ship to?

We commonly ship to all 48 contiguous states. However, we can work with you if you are interested in international shipping or shipping to Alaska/Hawaii. These are special circumstances, but we are happy to discuss this with you if you're interested.

How do I make sure everything will fit into my space?

We recommend that all of our remote clients walk the path that their cabinets will need to take in order to enter their final installed location. Since our team will not be able to visit your home, this helps to know if there are any pinch points we need to be aware of while designing your cabinets. These pinch points include elevators, stairways, narrow corners or doorways. We will ask for dimensions of these pinch points so that we can ensure everything can easily navigate the space to make unpacking and installation as smooth as possible.

What happens if something is damaged during shipping?

We try our very best to ensure everything is packed safely for its journey from us to you; however, due to the nature of shipping large pieces sometimes damage does occur. If this happens, our team will talk through solutions with you depending on the extent of the damage. We always try our best to end up at the best possible solution that limits any delays on your project as well as providing you with the highest quality end product.
