Common Questions

How do I get an estimate for Kerf's custom cabinets?

Ordering Kerf cabinets starts with reaching out to us for an estimate (it's free)! Simply fill out the Quote Request Form to begin. The form is designed to guide you through the first steps of your Kerf journey. Here’s an overview of the process:

Step 1: Share Your Vision

Everything we create is custom, so we start by learning what you want. Let us know your vision and how you’d like your custom cabinets to function. Whether it’s a minimalist bookshelf or a kitchen built for baking marathons, the more details you provide, the better! You don't need to design the cubby and drawer locations, leave that to us, we are experts at designing a visually beautiful layout around your storage needs.

Step 2: Provide Measurements

The next step is gathering dimensions for your project, we will ask for this information in the form:

For Storage/Bookcases:

  • Measure the width and height of the wall or space where the cabinets will go.

  • Share any specific needs, like space for an Encyclopedia Britannica collection or a Pez dispenser display. These details help us design a piece that’s perfect for you.

For Kitchens/Bathrooms:

  • Start with the basic layout of your space. Include wall dimensions, window and door placements, and plumbing/appliance locations, if known.

  • Dimensioned drawings are ideal. These could be professional architectural plans, sketches from a design program, or even a napkin drawing. Pair them with photos of your space and inspiration images. You can upload these files in the form.

  • If you’re remodeling, let us know if there’s a fixed layout or if walls or appliances can be moved. The more context, the better!

For Something a little Extra Custom:

  • Are you envisioning a wardrobe for an oddly shaped alcove, a bar cart that can house your record player or a bathroom vanity that doubles as a cat’s litter box? No problem!

  • Provide a photo of the area and measurements (width, depth, and height) where the piece will go.

  • Share a quick sketch or description of the piece’s function as well as its dimensions. If you’re unsure of the specific measurements, that’s fine – just give us your best guess, and we can go from there.

Step 3: Get your Estimate

Once we have your details, we’ll come up with an initial design in order to calculate the price of your specific project. This process usually takes about a week or so. We'll email you with renderings along with a price estimate. If our estimate works with your overall budget and you decide to move forward, we’ll ask for an initial design deposit to begin the design process in earnest. Together, we’ll collaborate with you to refine the design and ensure it’s exactly what you need.

Okay, these steps seem doable, but is it worth it? Why should I go custom; isn't it too expensive?

Kerf cabinets are an investment in quality. While the price is higher than mass-produced options, you’re getting:

  • High-quality materials.

  • A collaborative design process tailored to you.

  • Exceptional craftsmanship and installation support.

We’re a small business committed to creating products we love and ensuring you’re thrilled with the results. Our pricing reflects the cost of materials, custom one-on-one design experience, highly detailed production, and fair wages for our team.
